April is Organ Donation Month

The first heart transplant in Israel took place in 1986 at Hadassah University Medical Center. Thanks to new research and technologies, Israel has put into place new policies that could increase organ donation rates by up to 20%.

A Kidney Donation, 10 Years Later

May marks 10 years since Hadassah member Katie Edelstein donated a kidney to fellow Hadassah member Belle Simon. Since then, they have remained in each other's lives, Katie and Belle have been an inspiration to Hadassah members everywhere, and even inspired a nurse at Hadassah Ein Kerem to donate a kidney to a patient in need.

Jerusalem Mayor Praises Hadassah
Hadassah's Society of Major Donors held a Breakfast & Briefing with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on April 3. The Mayor stressed the enormous impact Hadassah Medical Organization has on the city of Jerusalem. "(Hadassah) is not just a name," said Barkat. "It's hundreds of thousands of roots all over the world...that are connected to the city of Jerusalem."

Heart Health Program Goes International
On March 11, 2014 while 6,000 delegates from the world's Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) gathered at the United Nations for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Hadassah's UN Team presented a parallel session entitled “A Healthy Woman is an Empowered Woman."
