Prof. Jacque Michel, former
Director of Hadassah Hospital-Mount Scopus and Volunteer Chair of the Hadassah
University Medical Center’s Helsinki Committee for the past 10 years, was
honored by Hadassah during a special seminar on Ethics in Medicine.
The Helsinki Committee ensures compliance with the World Medical Association's Declaration of Helsinki regarding ethical principles for medical research that involves human subjects. Prof. Michel, who has been with Hadassah for over 40 years, was praised for his outstanding leadership, dedication to ethical medicine, and exceptional contribution to the State of Israel in handling very complicated ethical issues on the national level.
In thanking everyone, Prof. Michel said: "When I grew up in France, I dreamt of working in the leading medical institute in Israel, and after I made Aliya, I joined Hadassah and stayed here for 41 years."
Prof. Tova Hajek-Shaul, who retired last year as head of the Department of Medicine at Hadassah-Mt. Scopus, will replace Prof. Michel as Chair of the Helsinki committee. Date: 11/14/2011
