Barbara Liss Chertok

Wolf Liss or "Velvel" as he was called in Yiddish was born in Russia and married there.

To escape having to serve in the Army, Velvel, his wife Sarah and their first child,a baby daughter they named Jenny, journeyed to America. They settled in theWest End of Boston and expanded their family to include three more daughters anda son. Over the years, Velvel liked to boast that his daughter - now married and named Jenny Liss Berman -had gone on to become president of her local Hadassah chapter in her hometown of Lawrence, Massachusetts.

I know this story personally because Velvel was my father. He and my mother married manyyears later and had two more daughters, myself and my older sister. Velvel was seventy years old when I was born!
