I remember from childhood, that my beloved mother, Rose Galitzer, was an active member of Hadassah. For years she served as Social Action Chair of the Naomi Group, which met at the Jewish Center of Kings Highway, Brooklyn, NY.
They always began their meetings with the singing of the national anthem, followed by Hatikva. Often she would ask me to come along and play these songs on the piano to accompany the members. (I usually left soon afterward to do my homework.) When I was in college, when I would return home on a break or a vacation, I was invited to play at these meetings, occasionally giving a piano recital.
I have been a member of the CT Region Hartford Chapter of Hadassah since the early 1970s. In 1979 my husband, Rubin Goldstein, gave me the gift of life membership.
I am happy to say that I still carry on the tradition my mother instilled in me. Rubin and I have made gifts of life membership to two of our daughter, and I continue to perform at Hadassah programs when the need or occasion arises.
