Following in Mom's Footsteps

In 1992, Rabbi Naamah (Naami) Kelman became the first woman ordained in Israel by the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR). She currently is Dean of the school’s Jerusalem campus.

Born and raised in New York, Kelman has lived in Israel since 1976, where she has worked in community organizing and Jewish education. Rabbi Kelman served on the Board of The Hadassah Foundation from 2005 through 2009 and is one of 29 Board alumnae from throughout the United States and Israel.

Naami has just shared this wonderful news with the Foundation Board:

“I am thrilled to report that my daughter Leora and husband Amit gave birth to Eitan on Monday, May 23rd at Hadassah Ein Kerem. The staff was phenomenal: caring, kind, and top notch professionals. The midwife was a total angel, and all in the "state of the art" Bloomberg Mother and Child Pavilion.

A little less than 28 years before, I gave birth to Leora at Hadassah Mt. Scopus (then, also state of the art, BUT times have indeed changed. I could be present at my grandson's birth along with parents and dula!!! The baby stayed right near Leora's bed for their 2 wonderful days in the hospital. Upstairs, the doctors and nurses were a wonderful staff.

I think it is the only ward where a guard sits at the door and makes sure that visiting hours and strictly kept.

Hadassah Hospital....you all should be very pleased and proud!”
