From Baltimore to Jerusalem

The Autumn Mission of Hadassah, led by Aileen Bormel, left for Israel on October 25, 2011. The majority of the group was from Baltimore, though others from around the globe joined them. All the Baltimoreans became Life Members before the mission began.

A highlight of the mission was their visit to Hadassah Medical Organization, where they heard from Professors Tamar Sela, Director, Diagnostic Breast Diseases Unit, and Benjamin Reubinoff, Director of the Hadassah Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Center. Professor Sela took them through the new Marlene Greenebaum Multidisciplinary Breast Center, which is supported through a generous gift from Baltimoreans Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum. Hadassah of Greater Baltimore has an annual fundraiser, Cell-A-Brate which raises money for stem cell research and some of the people on the committee who were on the mission stopped to take a picture with Professor Reubinoff. Last year the event netted $100,000.

Other highlights of the mission included Hezikayahs tunnel in the City of David, a walking tour of the Old City of Jerusalem, the new 9/11 memorial in Jerusalem, the new exhibit in Atlit , a Jeep ride in the Golan Heights, and stopping and tasting the wine in the Golan Heights Winery.

When they returned home, many of the travelers made their children and grandchildren Life Members. They told everyone who would listen that "you haven't seen Israel unless you have seen it with Hadassah."

Happy Baltimoreans in Israel.
