Update: Protect Women's Preventive Health Access

Action Alert

February 7, 2012

On January 20, after several months of public debate and internal review, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced women's preventive health coverage regulations, requiring most employers to provide full contraceptive coverage (without co-pays).

On February 10, the White House announced a modification to that ruling, requiring insurance companies to provide contraceptive access to certain employees, in place of their religiously affiliated employers. Hadassah welcomed that proposal and appreciates the administration's continued support for all women to have access to contraceptive coverage.

The contraceptive coverage debate still wages on in Congress, with proposed bills and amendments that would allow executives to decide which health services they do or do not want to cover—anything from contraception to children's vaccines, maternity care for single mothers, or blood transfusions. Tell Congress that patients—not their bosses—should be making personal health care decisions!

Hadassah remains a strong advocate for women's health rights and opposes any attempts to restrict access to reproductive and/or family planning services. Restrictions to reproductive health care deprive women of their right to make health decisions privately, in consultation with medical advice, and in accordance with their own religious, moral and ethical values.
