An Update from Israel, from Marcie Natan

Marcie E. Natan
National President

June 25, 2012

Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday morning at the opening of the General Assembly of the Jewish Agency for Israel, we were honored to hear from President Shimon Peres. Once again, we were all awed by his presence, his words and his challenges.

He outlined three principles by which we as a Jewish People should be guided.
  • We must live by the moral integrity of the Ten Commandments. They should be the guide to all facets of our life.
  • Our love for knowledge and innovation must drive our existence. We were born as a people of doubts and questions. Dissatisfaction is our strength and what drives us to improve our lives and the world. We cannot let the world fall asleep. We must continue to dream and to fight for a better everything.Continue to ask your children when they come home from school, "Did you ask a good question today?"
  • We are a people of peace. We are ever seeking it and doing everything we can to achieve it. With partners we will succeed.

He then challenged the members of the JAFI Assembly to stop being an Agency, and become an Assembly that uses these three principles to guide their principles and remember that our task as Jews is to have Jewish children.

It certainly left us all elated and proud of what we are doing at these meetings.
