Women's Equality Day 2012

August 26, 2012 will mark 92 years since the institution of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. In 1971, Congresswoman—and Hadassah Member—Bella Abzug championed the creation of Women's Equality Day to commemorate the amendment's institution. Every year since, Women's Equality Day has been officially recognized on August 26 by presidential proclamation.

America's women fought for decades for the right to cast their ballot. Hadassah urges its Members, Associates, and supporters to honor their foremother's commitment and sacrifices by registering, becoming informed, and exercising their right to vote. Please be aware that voter registration deadlines vary by state. Click here for a list of state election offices from the Federal Election Commission.

Learn about issues important to women, the Jewish Community, or in your state and county. Get engaged locally—attend town hall meetings, participate in voter registration drives, or volunteer to drive voters to the polls. Participating in a local event as a unit?
