Esther Panitch, a criminal lawyer from Atlanta took part in Hadassah's Centennial Gala celebration, as one of two women chosen to launch Hadassah's second century. Panitch, who traced the roots of her leadership skills to attending Hadassah meetings with her mother, pledged to continue Hadassah's work in the US, where she has already won the 330,000 member organization's Judith Epstein Prize for excellence and creativity.

She said she would follow in the footsteps of former National President Bernice Tannenbaum, aged 99, who was the chair of Hadassah's 50th convention 50 years ago. Earlier in the Convention, Panitch and her 12-year old daughter Miriam attended the "never too late" Bat Mitzvah of her mother Linda Goldstein, a Hadassah activist, at the Southern Wall in Jerusalem's Old City.
