NEW YORK — On behalf of the more than 330,000 members, associates and supporters of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, National President Marcie Natan released the following statement today in response to Hamas’ recent violence against Israel:
In a statement released today, Natan said:
Over recent days, Hamas has fired hundreds of missiles into Israel, without cause and with an aim of killing, wounding and terrifying innocent Israeli civilians. The more than 330,000 members, associates and supporters of Hadassah join together as we stand with Israel – today and always.
As rockets fall on Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and southern Israel, this unprovoked violence strikes us as particularly sad. So many of our members were blessed to have visited Israel just a few weeks ago, when we gathered to celebrate our centennial in Jerusalem – the location of Hadassah’s past, present and future.
Hadassah has worked tirelessly over 100 years to ensure the delivery of quality health and education services to the people of Israel. In doing so, we have created a bridge to peace by treating all people, irrespective of their religion or ethnicity, including large numbers from the Palestinian Authority.
The United States government – from the President to the members of Congress – has committed its support for Israel’s right to self-defense. We look to the world community for its understanding and its support of peace for the people of Israel.
As we express our deep solidarity with the people of Israel, we keep close to our hearts and minds our own Hadassah and Hadassah Medical Organization staff in Israel, the students of Hadassah College, Youth Aliyah and Young Judaea, and our members’ friends and loved ones who live in Israel.
Founded in 1912, Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, is celebrating its 100th year. Hadassah is a volunteer women's organization, whose members are motivated and inspired to strengthen their partnership with Israel, ensure Jewish continuity, and realize their potential as a dynamic force in American society.
