In response to the tragic events in Newtown, Conn., that transpired Friday, Marcie Natan, National President of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, released the following statement:
We are deeply moved and troubled by the incidents of violence plaguing our schools, workplaces and communities. I speak on behalf of Hadassah’s 330,000 members, associates and supporters in saying that our thoughts and prayers are with the families and community of Newtown. May the faces of those lost never be forgotten and may their memories be for a blessing.
As we honor their memories and do our part to make this a better and safer America for future generations, Hadassah leans on our long history as a staunch supporter of gun control legislation. We reaffirm our support for stricter gun laws, including a ban on assault weapons.
As a nation of caring citizens, we must put aside partisan affiliations and come together to enact substantive and comprehensive laws to protect our communities. Hadassah urges Congress to take all necessary actions to enact stronger gun control laws that will protect our nation, and especially our children, from such violence.
