On Sunday, April 21, 2013 Hadassah New England held its first-ever HealthFest. Northern, Southern, and Western New England Regions and the Boston Chapter were all on hand for education, interactive programming, physical activity, eating, and general fun. Held at a conference center in Marlborough, Massachusetts, the main ballroom held almost 40 booths, including those for Hadassah Health & Wellness programs, exhibitors, sponsors, and partner organizations. Attendees moved from booth to booth, sampling healthy and delicious food and drink. They learned how to perform breast and testicular self-examination and about preventing osteoporosis. They entered health data into the Sister to Sister Foundation's Smart for the Heart program. And, they spoke with a fitness center, a plastic surgeon, and many more health-related vendors.

The platinum sponsor for the full-day event was Pfizer, which has developed the only plant-based drug for the treatment of Gaucher disease. Dr. Jodi Hoffman, Director of the Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Disease at Tufts University, spoke about the research in the field. Among the twenty identified genetic diseases among Ashkenazic Jews, Gaucher is the most prevalent.

"Hadassah's New England Healthfest provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of genetic diseases, such as Gaucher disease, that have a greater prevalence in the Jewish community," said Miyeon Kim, Pfizer, Vice President, Established Products North America. "Pfizer is proud to partner with Hadassah to help educate the Jewish community about these rare, genetic and life-threatening diseases."
