Hadassah Strongly Urges UN Member States to Pass Resolution Rejecting Holocaust Denial
HADASSAH STRONGLY URGES UN MEMBER STATES TO PASS RESOLUTION REJECTING HOLOCAUST DENIAL
(New York, NY -- January 24, 2007) -- Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, appeals to nations of good conscience to condemn all forms of Holocaust denial and strongly urges a vote in favor of a United Nations-sponsored resolution which urges “all Member States unreservedly to reject any denial of the Holocaust as a historical event, either in full or in part, or in activities to this end.”
According to June Walker, National President of Hadassah: “It is fitting that this resolution will come to the floor on Friday, the day before the UN’s annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of Holocaust victims – a day that was established by the first ever Israeli-initiated resolution to be formalized by the international body.
“In light of the recent Holocaust denial conference in Iran and the ongoing genocide in Sudan, it is critical that the family of nations forever commit to standing up against genocide and the desecration of the memory of its victims.”
Since 2001, Hadassah has held special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
