Programmatics to be developed and supervised by Hadassah’s Zionist youth movement
Amanda Doreson

(New York, NY -- August 04, 2006) -- Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, announced today that on August 1 the program that was formerly under the auspices of the World Union of Jewish Students’ (WUJS) Institute in Arad formally became Hadassah WUJS Arad. Programmatics for the new institute will now fall within educational scope of Hamagshimim, the University Zionist Movement of Hadassah. As such, Hadassah WUJS Arad is the latest addition to Hadassah’s growing network of Israel-based learning programs.

“Developing program materials for Hadassah WUJS Arad is a real boost for Zionism,” said Hadassah’s national president, June Walker. “Our commitment to strengthening Jewish identity worldwide by fostering substantive one-on-one relationships between young adults and Israel is the basis for our moving forward with Hadassah WUJS Arad,” she added.

The Hadassah WUJS Arad program is an international program in Israel that includes Hebrew and Jewish studies for college graduates and young professionals between the ages of 21 and 35. The program emphasizes a holistic approach to education including weekly field trips, overnight hikes, meetings with Israeli peers and volunteer options that allow students to experience the country in the most creative and exciting manner possible. Students have the option to participate in the main program or choose a specialized track focusing on Peace and Social Justice, or Art. It was originally founded in 1968 by the World Union of Jewish Students in order to enable post-graduates from the Diaspora to explore their relationship with Israel and their Jewish heritage. Since its inception, nearly 8,000 young Jewish adults from over 50 countries have attended the program.

The Hadassah WUJS Arad program will continue under the direction of Alon Friedman, who has long been affiliated with Hadassah through his positions as the National Shaliach of Hamagshimim and as the Assistant Director of the Summer Programs Department of Young Judaea in Israel. Young Judaea is the Zionist Youth Movement of Hadassah.
