Hadassah Applauds Congressional Vote Ratifying Magen David Adom’S Admittance To The International Committee For The Red Cross
(New York, NY - December 13, 2006) -- Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America, applauds the actions of the 109th Congress in ratifying the recognition of the Red Crystal symbol as an insignia of neutrality and which clears the way for Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's emergency services organization, being admitted and granted its rightful status as a full member of the International Committee for the Red Cross.
In a statement today, June Walker, National President of Hadassah, said: "We are very gratified that, at the very last moments before the final adjournment of the 109th Congress, the House of Representatives and Senate passed legislation enabling Israel's admittance to the International Committee for the Red Cross. With these votes, the ICRC redresses a wrong that has existed since Israel's founding, and the last vestiges of Israel's exclusion from the world health community has hopefully been erased.
"Friends of Israel, worldwide, owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the leadership of the American Red Cross for their steadfast support of Israel's inclusion in the world body."Date: 12/13/2006 12:00:00 AM
