Hadassah Honors 10 Miami Women With 2010 Judith Epstein Young Leadership Award

By Kathy Hershfield

(Hollywood, FL – July 25, 2010) – Ten women from the Galim Chapter, Greater Miami Region, won the 2010 Judith Epstein Young Leadership Award for their community project, Moonwalk Back to the ‘80s. The award was presented on July 25 by Kathy Hershfield, Young Women’s chair, at Hadassah’s National Convention in Hollywood, FL. Hadassah presents this honor each year to young leaders whose community project most successfully promotes Hadassah.

Galim’s Moonwalk Back to the ‘80s was a 1980s-themed dance party at South Beach’s trendy SET Nightclub. The event—attended by over 300 Hadassah members and non members—was a fifth anniversary celebration for the chapter and a fundraising opportunity to support Hadassah’s TAKE A STAND! for its stem cell research initiative. Attendees also participated in a silent auction and raffle, raising over $15,000 for TAKE A STAND! The Miami Herald ran coverage before and after the event and it was also featured on the NBC local news.

Elizabeth Resnick is the president of the Galim Chapter. Other members of the planning committee include Cheryl Arnold, Pam Behar, Nancy Bernstein, Diane Breslow, Stacey Chopp, Tiva Lesser, Betsy Mateu, Elizabeth Resnick, Nikki Weisburd and Ilissa Whitehead.

The Judith Epstein Young Leadership Award was named for past national president Judith Epstein, who was an ardent advocate for young women. The award was created in 1991 to recognize the achievements of emerging Hadassah leaders who bring visibility to the organization.
