Human Rights Day Rally to Free Gilad Shalit

By Ruth Gursky

Memo to: Nancy Falchuk

Thank you for the honor of representing National Hadassah at this morning’s Human Rights Day Rally to Free Gilad Shalit.

It was an exciting morning, to say the least. I had the pleasure of meeting Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Congresswomen Carolyn Maloney and Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, as well as representatives from some of the rally co-sponsors:

  • American Association of Jewish Lawyers & Jurists: Stephen Greenwald (president) and Marc Landis (Board Member)
  • World Jewish Congress: Betty Ehrenberg (executive director)
  • Stand With Us: Avi Posnick (regional coordinator)

After the rally, I was invited to join my esteemed colleagues as we visited the International Committee of the Red Cross offices where Stephen presented a letter written by the American Association of Jewish Lawyers & Jurists and Avi presented petitions to ICRC Delegate Pierre Dorbes. We then shared our concerns with Mr. Dorbes who explained to us what the ICRC has done and will continue to do to obtain access to Gilad Shalit.

Please find a copy of my speech below.

Again, it was my privilege and honor to represent our beloved organization and I hope I made you proud this morning. I will forward photos taken at the event to you for Hadassah’s use.

L’shalom,

RUTH GURSKY
President, New York Region

SPEECH: Human Rights Day Rally @ International Red Cross Building, NYC

Boker Tov! Thank you for being here this morning. I am proud to bring greetings from Nancy Falchuk, National President of Hadassah. I am Ruth Gursky, President of the New York Region of Hadassah.

The 300,000 members of Hadassah, women and men from every election district in this country, stand in solidarity with all of you, on Human Rights Day, to speak out on behalf of Gilad Shalit.

The fact that Gilad has been held captive for FOUR YEARS, and denied access to humanitarian aid is an OUTRIGHT BREACH of the International Declaration of Human Right and the Geneva Convention.

It’s a CRIME! It’s a SHONDA!

Hadassah urges the International Red Cross to ACT NOW and INTENSIFY its efforts to visit Gilad AND work toward his release!

FREE GILAD NOW! FREE GILAD NOW! FREE GILAD NOW!

Thank you.
