The Board of Directors of The Hadassah Foundation met in New York to vote on grant allocations for 2011. The Foundation is a philanthropic leader in the fields of economic security for low-income Israeli women and self-esteem and leadership programs for Jewish adolescent girls and their adult mentors in the U.S. It has awarded more than $5 million to nearly 60 organizations since 2000. These grants support social change, ground-breaking, replicable initiatives that have affected the lives of tens of thousands of women and girls and have attracted the attention of other philanthropists, the Israeli government, and the media. The Hadassah Foundation also is the largest of some 20 Jewish women’s funds in the U.S. and one of the largest globally.

Forty-two American and Israeli women – including members of the National Board of HWZOA and leaders from the larger Jewish community – have served on the Board since 1999. Currently, sixteen women -- representing fields ranging from the law, venture capital investments, social work, professional evaluation, and sports -- currently serve on the Foundation Board.
