NEW YORK —Hadassah reiterates its concern over the escalation of conflict regarding women’s prayer at the Western Wall and applauds Prime Minister Netanyahu’s plan to address the situation.  In response to this new announcement, Marcie Natan, National President of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, released the following statement:

I speak on behalf of Hadassah’s 330,000 members, associates and supporters -- women and men, American, Israeli and those from around the world -- in welcoming Prime Minister Netanyahu’s request for the Jewish Agency of Israel to study and provide recommendations regarding prayer at the Kotel, especially with regards to women.

Hadassah reaffirms its longstanding commitment to the principles of women’s equality, religious pluralism, and the preservation of Jewish unity—echoing Prime Minister Netanyahu’s sentiments that the Kotel must remain a source of cohesion for world Jewry, rather than of division.

As a member of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors, Hadassah looks forward to participating in this important effort and hopes that a resolution can be reached which will allow all women to pray, individually and collectively, at the Kotel freely, without harassment, and in accordance with their own religious practices.

Founded in 1912, Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, is celebrating its 100th year.
