2010 U.S. Grantees

Encouraging self-confidence, leadership skills, and healthy lifestyle choices among Jewish adolescent girls and young women and providing awareness and training for the influential adults in their lives.

JEWISH TRADITION, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, SELF-ESTEEM, AND WELLNESS

Shalom Bayit (2008-2011)
The youth-led dating violence prevention curriculum Love Shouldn't Hurt: Campus and Beyond focuses on college students. Partnering with Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, Shalom Bayit will bring this program to campuses across the country. The Hadassah Foundation provided grants for the conception, development, publication, and piloting of age-appropriate versions of the curriculum tailored for middle, high school, and college-aged students (2005-2007).

Keshet (2008-2011)
The Hineini Education Project is a national initiative that addresses LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) issues from a Jewish perspective. Based on the documentary film and curriculum Hineini: Coming Out in a Jewish High School, the project provides resources and trainings for inclusion in schools and communities across the country. In addition, national institutes train educators and youth professionals to initiate policy and cultural shifts. The current grant supports anti-bullying initiatives and trainings.

Hazon (2011)
Gan Nashim: Growing Strong Jewish Girls is a sustainable food and healthy living project to be piloted in Jewish summer camps. A central component of the program is Bishvili, an innovative health and wellness curriculum by Dr. Catherine Steiner-Adair and Lisa Sjostrom that was funded by The Hadassah Foundation (see Past Grantees, McLean Hospital).

FINANCIAL TRAINING

Jewish Women International (JWI) (2011)
Life$avings: Financial Literacy for Young Women provides core education in financial planning for young women, including instruction, tools, and resources that help them take charge of their money, build assets for their futures, and be able to participate fully in financial decisions made over the course of a lifetime.

The Hadassah Foundation provided grants for the Strong Girls, Healthy Relationships curriculum (2006-2010), which enables teens to make healthy choices about relationships and provides training and resources to adults. Their partnership with United Synagogue Youth (USY) has enabled them to disseminate educational materials across the country.

BUSINESS TRAINING & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Hebrew Free Loan Society (2011)
Charedi Women's Core Business Training Model is a new, gender-sensitive training program specifically geared toward launching ultra-Orthodox women in Brooklyn into home-based businesses that supplement family income.

Jewish Free Loan Association (2011)
The Micro-Enterprise Women in Business Loan Fund provides two- to four-year interest-free loans to Jewish women in the Los Angeles area who plan to open or expand their businesses. The loans range from $5,000-10,000.
