Friday, October 19
Depart Jerusalem, beginning with a visit to Leket Israel for a hands-on volunteer opportunity, completing the mitzvah of gleaning the fields and collecting fruits and vegetables for Israel's needy. Continue to Rahat to visit with a Bedouin community as we enjoy lunch and learn about their unique lifestyle and culture. Continue to the ruins of Avdat, the greatest Nabatean city in the Negev, overlooking the desert. View the remains of two impressive Byzantine churches and a wine press. Travel further into the desert, arriving at the great natural wonder of Mitzpe Ramon. Check into our spa resort and enjoy Shabbat dinner together. Overnight in Mitzpe Ramon.
Saturday, October 20
Enjoy a day of leisure at our resort in Mitzpe Ramon, with plenty of time to relax and enjoy the spa amenities. Dinner and overnight in Mitzpe Ramon.
Sunday, October 21
This morning we visit Sde Boker for a visit to the modest house and gravesite of David Ben Gurion as we learn more about the life of the great leader. Learn about the Ben Gurion University National Solar Energy Center Sde Boker, established to research and advance alternative energy sources and technologies, including solar power generation. We then visit a nearby kibbutz to learn about desert agriculture and the developments being made to help assist in cultivating the Negev. Dinner and overnight in Mitzpe Ramon.
Monday, October 22
Travel to the Eshkol region. Meet with the mayor at a local school to hear about the area's recent development and future projects. Drive along the Gaza border to a high tech farm, where we meet with a representative to learn about technical advances in farming. This evening we enjoy dinner and home hospitality with Eshkol families as we learn firsthand about life in the region. Overnight in Beer Sheva.
Tuesday, October 23
Morning visit to Ben Gurion University, where we learn about the multitude of educational programs offered by this institution, including the National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev, the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research with its Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies, and the Ben Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism. We then visit Shvil Hasalat (The Salad Trail), where we pick delicious produce and prepare an authentic Israeli lunch featuring local ingredients. Continue to Jerusalem or the airport for your flight home.
