Creativity is seeing the world as it could be. Students in the Industrial Design Department at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem combine creativity with curiosity and a drive to make life more accessible and user-friendly for everyone. They must be able to understand the varied needs of people as product users and to approach a problem with different solutions. Industrial Design uses technology, practical engineering and social understanding with a view to the markets of the future.

All Industrial Design students in their senior year are required to create a project that identifies a real problem in today's society and to develop an innovative design solution. In some cases the students work in collaboration with industry to produce tangible proof of the efficacy of their ideas, and create serviceable products that improve quality of life.

Assaf, a native of Jerusalem, studied Industrial Design at the College and graduated with honors. For his final project he invented a product for which there is great demand worldwide. He designed and developed an Advanced Explosives Detector, which locks in a person suspected of carrying explosives. He worked on his invention with Egged and Dan bus companies, and adapted the system for use on a bus platform.
