Hadassah Medical Organization Doctors, Nurses and Non-Medical Staff Return to Work

Hadassah Commends Progress of Union Negotiations

(New York, NY) February 20, 2014—Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America (HWZOA), today praised the progress at Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) following successful union negotiations and labor court decisions that resulted in doctors, nurses and non-medical staff returning to work this week. The hospital is now fully operational and back to serving the Israeli community. The unions have committed to coming to an agreement with the administration by April 13, the day before Passover begins.

Commenting on the situation, Hadassah National President Marcie Natan said, “This is an important step in the path to recovery for HMO. Now that an agreement has been reached, doctors, nurses and non-medical staff can go back to doing what they do best – treating patients at the highest level of care. This has been a difficult time and we appreciate all of the support for HMO from our friends in Israel and around the world. We stand with our Israeli colleagues as they continue to make progress in ensuring HMO’s status as one of the best hospitals in the world. HMO will emerge stronger than ever.”

On Friday, February 7 the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) filed for Section 350, which is analogous to the U.S. Chapter 11. Under the terms of Section 350, the leadership of HMO is working with court-appointed trustees to develop and begin implementation of a recovery plan. HMO management continues its negotiations with the Government of Israel and the unions as part of the Section 350 process.

HWZOA has launched a dedicated page on its website at www.hadassah.org/HMOupdate and will continue to provide regular updates throughout the recovery process.
