New Members of the Month

September 2014

Marna-Daryn Altman
Westport Chapter, Connecticut Region
Westport, CT

I have been married to my husband, Howie, for seven years. We have a daughter, Johannna or JoJo, who is three and a half and our son Brayden is almost two.

What keeps you busy?
Taking care of my husband and kids. Owning my own business, Garden Fresh Baby, a fresh, locally sourced and organic baby food and toddler food company. Volunteering at my children's preschool at The Conservative Synagogue of Westport.

What are your interests/hobbies?
Long walks with friends, cooking, shopping at local farmers markets, boating, gardening, and traveling to new places.

Why did I become a member?
I was looking for a group to be actively involved in outside of our preschool and sisterhood. So many of my friends are members or are becoming members of Hadassah that it felt like a natural fit. The mission and women involved make Hadassah a great organization to be a part of. I cannot wait to work with our chapter on restarting the baby group and help to bring new young mothers back to our chapter.

One thing you should know: I love traditions, especially Jewish ones!

Stephanie Gordon
Hadassah Southern Nevada, Desert-Mountain Region
Las Vegas, NV

What keeps you busy?
Stephanie is a busy mother of four boys aged 4-10 and a doting wife to her wonderful husband, Oren, of 13 years. She is active in her children's school, congregation and the Israeli community in Las Vegas.

What are your interests/hobbies?
In addition to her family and volunteer work, Stephanie works hard helping business owners and community leaders in the Las Vegas area as a Financial Services Professional for New York Life. Her work has enabled her to speak at businesses around the city helping with planning and development. She also lectures at local educational institutions, such as Roseman University, University of Nevada Las Vegas, and most recently the University of Nevada School of Medicine, helping their medical students and faculty in their business planning.

Why did you become a member?
Always looking for ways to help the Jewish community in Las Vegas and everywhere, Stephanie recently became a lifetime member of Hadassah, as so many of the great women in her family before her. Every day she becomes a prouder member as she learns all that Hadassah has done, is doing, and still seeks to do.

One thing we should know about you:
As is happens, Stephanie is also an Israeli citizen, and was still living in Israel when her first two children were born, both in Hadassah's hospitals in Jerusalem.

Michelle Sas
eMember
Denver, CO

Michelle is the former owner of a custom black and white photography lab and fine art photography gallery in Miami, Florida. She is also one of the founders of the Lumpy Sue Acoustic Music Fest, an annual benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity in Miami that has helped over 700 families achieve their dreams of home ownership. She is a single parent to daughter Rain Dvorah.

What keeps you busy?
Being a single parent with full custody of my daughter, Rain, keeps me on my toes. I like to volunteer at her school. Three years ago I decided to return to school myself full time to get my bachelor’s degree in business administration and I graduate this fall from the University of Denver!

What are your interests/hobbies?
I love to read books – the old fashioned, printed kind. Visiting art galleries and hiking are also favorite activities and I am learning how to play tennis, much to my daughter’s amusement.

Why did you become a member?
I have always admired the work that Hadassah does but I never felt I had enough time to properly commit. Then I read a post by Daphna Michaelson Jenet about a new eMembership option that would allow me to test the waters. I believe Hadassah’s unwavering commitment to Israel and the humanitarian and educational work it does worldwide is extremely valuable. I look forward to engaging as a member.

One thing we should know about you: I am passionate about issues, women’s rights and promoting equality for all.

Every month, new members are selected from among our highest performing chapters across the country.
Meet some of our diverse new members and send them your welcome!
