Dear Friends of Hadassah Academic College:
Thanks to the generosity of the Rothschild Caesarea Foundation (Israel), we will be opening a Career Counseling Service to help all our students to identify, prepare for, and secure rewarding positions upon completion of their degree. This new service comes in addition to our existing activities in which we provide assistance to every student to ensure that he/she successfully completes his/her college education.
This year will also mark a new initiative for the College which we are confident will greatly contribute to the strengthening of Israel's society and economy. Beginning in December 2012, our College will be opening special undergraduate degree learning tracks for ultra-Orthodox "haredi" men and women who until now have either been discouraged or reluctant to pursue a college education. The purpose of this initiative is to enable the ultra-Orthodox to acquire an academic degree in an in-demand profession and consequently integrate into the workforce. Working together with a respected "haredi" institute in the heart of the nearby "Meah Shearim" neighborhood, we will be offering undergraduate degree programs in five separate areas, i.e., Computer Sciences (B.Sc.), Optometry (B.Optom.), Biotechnology (B.Sc.), Politics and Communication (B.A.), and Health and Hospitality Services Management (B.Sc.). We believe that this groundbreaking initiative, to be supported by both the Israel Council of Higher Education and interested donors will help raise the quality and standard of living of a strategically important at-risk portion of Israel's population and help integrate this community into the workplace.
We are also pleased to announce the opening of an English-language International Summer School for students from around the world. This four week program, to be held in July 2013 will offer full credit academic courses in Politics and Communication; Environmental Health; Photography; and Hospitality Management that will include both classroom instruction and study trips around Israel. This program will not only bring a welcome presence of overseas students to our campus but will contribute to the forging of valuable ties between Hadassah Academic College and institutions of higher learning around the world.
All those who have visited our College are aware that as a result of our rapid student growth, our current facilities are fully utilized with teaching taking place from early in the morning until late in the evening. We are therefore very grateful to the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust for their generous lead gift that will enable our College to add critically needed classroom space in a state-of-the-art Interdisciplinary Science Center. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2013, and upon completion will provide well equipped classrooms as well as a 350-seat auditorium and a public gallery for art, photography, and cultural events.
This year we are also initiating the creation of an alumni association, thanks to the generous assistance of the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation. We are proud of our alumni and plan to reach out to them to involve them in student enrollment, to serve as mentors to our current students, and to join the ranks of our donors and friends. The creation of an alumni association is part a wider initiative to actively involve and enlist Israeli donors, both private and corporate to the cause of our College.
Last week, we had the pleasure to host several dozen visiting Hadassah members to the College who were in Jerusalem to celebrate the organization's Centennial. We invite you to tour our campus as well … just open this link to our most recent film –"A special place in the heart of Jerusalem."
All of our new directions could not have been made possible without the strong support of concerned and committed friends from around the world. We thank you for your involvement and generosity, and invite you to continue partnering with us as we strengthen Israel and Jerusalem, one student at a time!
Sincerely, Prof. Bertold Fridlender, PresidentContact: email@example.com Prof. Bertold Fridlender
Summer Birthright Registration
Do you have an Israeli parent? Were you born in Israel (but left before age 12)? Not sure what to answer when someone asks are you Israeli or American? This special Taglit-Birthright Israel trip is for those that identify with Israel , know the culture and enjoy the food but have never seen Israel outside of Saba and Safta’s or Dod and Doda’s house. Experience a different side to Israel . Discover your roots in the ancient city of Jerusalem and party the night away in trendy Tel Aviv. Climb Masada at sunrise, float on the Dead Sea, and take in the pure beauty of the Galilee . Don’t be just a tourist but come and visit your home and family in Israel .
You have probably heard and read about recent discriminatory acts against women in Israel. The stories of incidents in which ultra-Orthodox men have used threats and violence to scare women are in the press, on your TVs and your computers.
Women are being asked to sit at the back of buses, and in perhaps the most well-known incident, eight-year-old Naama Margolis was harassed on her way to school, accused of immodest dress.
As the largest women's Zionist organization in the United States, Hadassah has always had the greatest respect for all streams of Judaism and we have been among the leading supporters of a pluralistic Israel since its founding. This discrimination must stop. Read our statement, and please sign our petition. This is your opportunity to be counted!
