At Hadassah Academic College Jerusalem, students from Jerusalem and its periphery can pursue Academic and Associate degrees in a
variety of subjects. Students gain the skills and credentials
they need to build their lives and pursue promising careers.

Learning is the highest achievement in life. By offering the gift of
knowledge we give hope, independence and create new opportunities.
Even before the State of Israel was born, Hadassah under-
stood the importance of education; and since that time
continuously has provided training and education opportunities.

About Hadassah College Jerusalem

From: Prof. Bertold Fridlender President@hadassah.ac.il
Oct 24 , 2012

Dear Friends of Hadassah Academic College:
This week, our College opened  the 2012-13 academic year and welcomed a record number of 2,400 students from all parts of Israel to our undergraduate and graduate teaching programs. We are pleased to report a significant increase in enrolment mainly in our School of Management's Health, Hospitality, and Human Resources learning tracks, and in our recently established Department of Politics and Communication.

There is also a welcome rise in enrollment in our Department of Environmental Health Science whose graduates find rewarding positions in both the public and private sectors.  We are pleased too with the continued growth in our departments of Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Optometry (B. Optom. and M. Optom.), Communication Disorders (B.A. and M.A.), Computer Sciences (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) Inclusive Industrial Design, and Photographic Communications.

Thanks to the generosity of the Rothschild Caesarea Foundation (Israel), we will be opening a Career Counseling Service to help all our students to identify, prepare for, and secure rewarding positions upon completion of their degree.  This new service comes in addition to our existing activities in which we provide assistance to every student to ensure that he/she successfully completes his/her college education.

This year will also mark a new initiative for the College which we are confident will greatly contribute to the strengthening of Israel's society and economy.  Beginning in December 2012, our College will be opening special undergraduate degree learning tracks for ultra-Orthodox "haredi" men and women who until now have either been discouraged or reluctant to pursue a college education.  The purpose of this initiative is to enable the ultra-Orthodox to acquire an academic degree in an in-demand profession and consequently integrate into the workforce.  Working together with a respected "haredi" institute in the heart of the nearby "Meah Shearim" neighborhood, we will be offering undergraduate degree programs in five separate areas, i.e., Computer Sciences (B.Sc.), Optometry (B.Optom.), Biotechnology (B.Sc.), Politics and Communication (B.A.), and Health and Hospitality Services Management (B.Sc.).   We believe that this groundbreaking initiative, to be supported by both the Israel Council of Higher Education and interested donors will help raise the quality and standard of living of a strategically important at-risk portion of Israel's population and help integrate this community into the workplace.

We are also pleased to announce the opening of an English-language International Summer School for students from around the world.  This four week program, to be held in July 2013 will offer full credit academic courses in Politics and Communication; Environmental Health; Photography; and Hospitality Management that will include both classroom instruction and study trips around Israel.  This program will not only bring a welcome presence of overseas students to our campus but will contribute to the forging of valuable ties between Hadassah Academic College and institutions of higher learning around the world.

All those who have visited our College are aware that as a result of our rapid student growth, our current facilities are fully utilized with teaching taking place from early in the morning until late in the evening.   We are therefore very grateful to the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust for their generous lead gift that will enable our College to add critically needed classroom space in a state-of-the-art Interdisciplinary Science Center.  Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2013, and upon completion will provide well equipped classrooms as well as a 350-seat auditorium and a public gallery for art, photography, and cultural events.

This year we are also initiating the creation of an alumni association, thanks to the generous assistance of the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation.  We are proud of our alumni and plan to reach out to them to involve them in student enrollment, to serve as mentors to our current students, and to join the ranks of our donors and friends.  The creation of an alumni association is part a wider initiative to actively involve and enlist Israeli donors, both private and corporate to the cause of our College.

Last week, we had the pleasure to host several dozen visiting Hadassah members to the College who were in Jerusalem to celebrate the organization's Centennial.  We invite you to tour our campus as well … just open this link to our most recent film –"A special place in the heart of Jerusalem."

All of our new directions could not have been made possible without the strong support of concerned and committed friends from around the world.  We thank you for your involvement and generosity, and invite you to continue partnering with us as we strengthen Israel and Jerusalem, one student at a time!

Sincerely, Prof. Bertold Fridlender, President

Sounding Off for Change
Jewish women have been on the protest front lines throughout history, championing causes from civil rights and gay tolerance to public health care and anti-violence policies. Given the massive focus over the past year on the Occupy movement to protest Wall Street corruption, we thought we'd devote this issue to spotlighting Jewish women who find unique ways to speak out—flash mobs ... photo campaigns ... creating a new sorority. We hope the creative ideas for demanding change will get you thinking about how you might make your own voice heard.
