PNW REGION PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Shana Tova U’Metuka.

May we all have a sweet year and

be inscribed in the Book of Life.

Dear Pacific Northwest Region Members,

This past July I attended Hadassah National Board meetings in Baltimore and I have to say that I have never been so impressed with the new programs that have been created and the changes and advancements being done at our National level.

Let me share a little with you……

Every Beat Counts is our new Heart Health program, developed because heart disease is the number one cause of death among women! This program educates women about decisions crucial to their longevity and quality of life. Our region has been provided with all the elements necessary for a great program and it will be one of our main focuses in the coming year. It will engage and empower women, promote wellness and develop coalitions within our communities.

CHOOSE Where To Make Your Impact is probably the best Hadassah wide program I have ever seen. Whether you are a Major Donor, a Centennial Founder (this level only available until July 2014), a Keeper of the Gate or a Chai Society (see the article below)you can choose where you want to direct your contribution!  There are 5 Impact areas:

           Medicine and Healthcare

           Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower

           Youth and Education

           U.S. Initiatives

           Scholarships

Each one of these areas offers opportunities for you to direct your contribution to the cause that touches your heart…empowering women, Youth Aliyah, Young Judaea, medical research, rehab medicine and so much more.

We have Impact cards, brochures, pledge cards, invitations and thank yous so make sure when you make your contribution you Choose Your Impact!

In the next year our Hadassah.org website will start looking different and will be much easier to navigate. You will also be receiving Hadassah ‘comments’ on issues in the U.S. and Israel immediately after they happen.

And CONVENTION 2014 is in Las Vegas July 21-24. I am inviting everyone to join me for lots of fun and amazing sessions. My son lives in ‘Vegas so I guarantee a great time! Michelle Goldberg is our Convention Chair,michelle.goldberg@hadassah.org. Send Michelle your name if you’re planning to come – let’s be 50 members strong!

I only have one more issue after this E-news as your region president so call me or email me with what you want for Hadassah in the Pacific Northwest.

Chag Sameach,

Jacquie

SOCIAL ACTION AGENDA

Please join us... Together we can make an impact!

" Have our eyes on a living present, and a future promise!"

Coming YOUR way soon…

HADASSAH: MAKING AN IMPACT IN YOUR COMMUNITY~ CREATING A SOCIAL ACTION AGENDA

·      Imagine! Your Hadassah chapter partnering with a pediatric ward in your community to bring cheer into the lives of parents and their children who struggle with health issues.

·      Imagine! Your Hadassah chapter partnering with a women and children’s shelter to bring comfort and solace to those in need.

·      Imagine! Creating a career network event for young women just entering work in partnership with your own very skilled and experienced members.

YOU, our Hadassah members, share our values of:

Pikuah Nefesh (saving lives, one life at a time)

Tikkun Olam (repairing the world)

K’lal Yisrael (embracing all of the Jewish Community as one)

M’dor L’dor(passing on our values to future generations)

YOU will have a unique opportunity to support, help, and improve your own local community.

Your Pacific Northwest Region leaders have been diligently working for two years with Jeff Wilcox, a widely acclaimed leader who works with non-profits (thirdsectorcompany.com), to help you create your own Social Action Agenda that is just right for your community. You can look forward to exciting ways to help your community and to partner with community organizations that align with Hadassah’s work and Hadassah’s values.

We are meeting on September 29th to translate these terrific ideas into direct actions -- actions that are doable, realistic, timely, and related to Hadassah’s extraordinary work. If you want to be part of the mobilization of the Social Action Agenda contact Peg Elefant at pelefant@hadassah.org.

By January 2014—and probably sooner (!)—you can expect ideas, actions, and support from the Pacific Northwest Region Council to make an impact in your community.

Stay tuned! Exciting opportunities are coming your way!

PROJECT CONNECT LOCALLY

Mazel tov to PNW Region for Achieving 99% of Goal as of July 31

The following Chapters are at 100%: Portland, Salem and Shalom.

These Chapters are at 99%: Corvallis, Eugene, and Seattle.

Spokane has achieved 98% while Anchorage and Bellingham are at the 97% point.

The big winner, however, is TACOMA who has surpassed their goal at 101%.

It would be great if all Chapters could reach the 100% or higher mark before December. One of the ways to boost your roster is to actively pursue Project Connect Locally, where you find Life Members living in your area that need to be transferred to your Chapter from their original unit roster. If you need a list of these members please contact me at hadassah@gelbfamily.com. I would love to hear from you!

Rosh Hashanah is quickly approaching - early Holidays mean they will also be over early and that gives us a good run. Let’s push just a little harder so we can all achieve our membership goals.

Wishing you all L'Shana Tova and G'mar Hatimah Tovah!
