Sharing the Lights of Shabbat

Sharing the Lights of Shabbat

This is a special mitzvah project of HVOS. The goal is to bring Yiddishkeit and Sabbath warmth to senior Jewish residents living in independent facilities. To accomplish this goal, we need the help of each local group. The task is EASY yet the rewards are tremendous. Select the month your group could participate.

The Location:

  • Pueblo Norte (Retirement Village)- 7200 E. Mescal St. Scottsdale (3 blocks north of Shea & 1 block west of Scottsdale Road)

  • The 2nd & 4th Friday of each month from 4:30 - 5:00 p.m.

What to bring:

  • 2 challahs sliced (if homemade, please bring a knife)
  • 1 bottle of Manischewitz wine
  • 1 bottle of grape juice
  • Special treats (cookies, fruit, cake etc.)
  • Something to read or share with the people (see below)
  • Plates, napkins, cups, candles, matches will be provided

What to do at Pueblo Norte:

  • Meet in the Arts & Crafts room
  • Set each place with plate, napkin & cups
  • Make introductions (each Hadassah women tells about herself and her group)
  • Make the blessings over the candles, wine & Challah
  • Bring something to read about a particular holiday, something funny, something Jewish, or something about Hadassah.

The most important thing is to interact with the Pueblo Norte residents. Our goal is to provide interaction and socialization for the Jewish residents. If you would like more information and to select your month, please contact Linda F. at chapter.hvos@hadassah.org.
