Message From the President
Greetings from Sue Ritter, HVOS President
Once again we are heading into a season packed with holidays, the return of friends who were away for the summer and a very full calendar of activities at Hadassah Valley of the Sun.
We are also dealing with demands being made on Hadassah due to Operation Protective Edge. As in the past our members have stepped up and once again given generously to make sure that we provide excellent healthcare and comfort to those who have been displaced or injured by the rocket attacks and combat service while defending and protecting Israel. I and other women from our Chapter attended the National Convention in July.
We all stood with other members from across the country to honor the Medical Corps of the Israeli Defense Forces with the Henrietta Szold Award. Brigadier General Professor Yitshak Kreiss, who in addition to being head of the Medical Corps, is also a professor at Hadassah Hebrew University Medical School. General Kreiss accepted this honor by a taped message as he was in Israel at the Operational Command of the Medical Corps. He shared video of the amazing work the IDF Medical Corps was doing caring for not only the soldiers but also injured Gaza's residents. Hadassah trains the doctors who serve in the IDF Medical Corps. They might have graduated from many other schools of medicine in Israel or elsewhere, but Hadassah educates them to become a doctor in the IDF. No matter where the IDF doctors and their mobile hospitals are sent in the world it is you and your donations that allow them to save lives.
In addition to the serious moments we also learned new ideas, experienced the wonderful new programs and got to use new materials available for education, meetings and community wide events. We were challenged toInspire, Imagine, Igniteand looking at what is planned the next few months I believe you will feel it, too.
I hope to see many of you at the various events in September and beyond. I also want to wish you and your families the very best health, happiness and peace in the New Year.
L' Shana Tovah,
