We must take great pride in the role played by Greater Detroit. To quote June Walker from a recent e-mail sent to all National Board members:
"It is impossible to do justice to the thrill, pride and hope this note of confidence has given us as a board and as an organization. It has affirmed and validated our mission and proved that what we do for the state of Israel and medicine throughout the world is absolutely imperative.
In fact, this is the perfect time to elaborate on the role and value of our grassroots. The chapters across the country are the base on which everything in the organization stands. They give Hadassah its strength and character. Moreover, they are where the bulk of our activities and ideas percolate. As our emissaries and representatives to individual Jewish communities, our grassroots membership has limitless opportunities to interact on the local levels and impact event as they occur.
A gift, such as this one, does not occur in a vacuum. As our excellent fundraisers like to say: "Many hands touched this gift."We owe a debt of gratitude to our colleague, Judy Swartz, and her husband, Sidney, who reached out to Mr. Davidson. But we also would like to acknowledge the role that the Detroit Chapter played in making this gift a reality.
Around the same time, Judy and Sidney Swartz also approached Mr. Davidson. What the Swartzes achieved through strategic fundraising is a now historic gift for the organization. What the Detroit Chapter achieved also sets new milestones.
If there is one message that I would like to impart it is this: everything in this complex and amazing organization begins and ends with our membership. Let us never forget that."
Thank you to each and every one of you. You are all part of this historic gift. Come to Israel with us in November and we will visit the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower (under construction) together, and take personal pride in the role that we played.
The Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadassah has been a force in the Metropolitan Detroit area for 90 years. Our home is the Sarah and Ralph Davidson House on Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield.
Our chapter has many events and volunteer opportunities that occur throughout the year. Check Our Events page to see the list.
