|Rhode Island Chapter has had several long-term projects:|
Acknowledging "Simchas and Sorrows"
This is an initiative that lets RI Hadassah know about and acknowledge the life-cycle events and honors of members of the community. There has been a "Simchas and Sorrows" column in each Newsletter providing sympathy or mazel tov or wishing a speedy recovery. Appropriate cards are sent to each member.
Hasbro Children's Hospital Community Service Project provided Hadassah members with the opportunity (for 22 years) to work as volunteers at Hasbro in different ways: reading to, and playing with the children, or providing items needed by the Hospital. RI Hadassah members have knit or crocheted afghans for children (641 afghans had been donated in the first 3 years), created doughnut-shaped pillows for the Infant ICU to support newborns during procedures in which they need to be sitting up, sewn Medical Teaching. They provided Dolls for Children and fun pillowcases for Children admitted to Hasbro Children's Hospital. The Doll Project was a recipient of President Bush's "Points of Light" Volunteer Program.
Operation Comfort Pack which provided foster kids with belongings they could call their own.
