Hadassah of Greater Baltimore

Day on the Hill

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

The program included Briefings from the State Department and Israeli Embassy and presentations by our Maryland Elected Officials.

Thanks to Gale Duell, Chair and her committee for a fabulous day.  The program was terrific, the speakers most informative, and even the weather was perfect!

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night. . . deter the women of Hadassah!

On Wednesday, March 7, 2007 Hadassah of Greater Baltimore participated with other Hadassah members from Washington DC and Northern Virginia for Day on The Hill.

Initially, we were met by a wintry mix of weather, but by day’s end it turned out to be quite pleasant.

We started our day with a visit to the brand new American Indian Museum, located on The Mall. Then we set forth to the Dirksen Senate Office Building, where we had a delicious lunch waiting for us, and were met by the aide to the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski followed with up-to-the-minute briefings on current legislation and issues of concern to Hadassah, including Stem Cell Research, Genetic Discrimination, and Support for Israel. We also had an opportunity to speak with a spokesman from the Israeli Embassy. We then headed for the House of Representatives, and spoke with Congressmen Elijah Cummings, John Sarbanes, and Chris Van Hollen.

All in all it was a very informative day, and Hadassah definitely made an impact in showing our concern and support for these key issues. It was a great opportunity for us to get to know our legislative representatives, and more importantly, for them to get to know Hadassah.

Special thanks to Beth Sellman who chaired this event, and to all the participants who braved the weather and helped ensure that Hadassah’s voice is heard in Washington.
