Message from the President
Dear Hadassah Members:
This is a very special year for Hadassah. One hundred years ago Henrietta Szold began Hadassah as a study group in her home. Today we have over 300,000 members worldwide and are in the process of finishing the Sarah Wetzman Davidson Tower at Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. You are part of the largest Women's Zionist organization and one of the largest women's charitable organizations in the world and I am looking forward to sharing this year with you as your new Winston-Salem Chapter President.
From now until December 31, 2011, Hadassah is offering its Life Membership (normally $360) for only $100. We would love to see our chapter become one of ALL LIFE MEMBERS. Chapel Hill-Durham has done it and Raleigh is close, so why can't we reach this fabulous goal? Get in touch with Donna Stern for membership information.
I would like to make this year our "Walking to Jerusalem" year. The National Convention will be in Jerusalem in October of 2012 when we will dedicate the new tower. Although we obviously cannot all attend this event we can make an impact. We hope to be able to dedicate a piece of medical equipment to the Tower which will insure that the name of the Winston-Salem Hadassah chapter will always be a part of this fabulous endeavor. We can't do it without your help.
Please plan to attend our Hadassah events and make a donation to the Tzedakah box we will have available. Come to our programs, our Tu B'shvat Seder, and our Shabbat Hadassah service at Temple Emanuel. If anyone is interested in participating in the Shabbat Service, please contact me. And, on January 19, 2012, please join us at Temple Emanuel when we, in conjunction with Sisterhood, Brotherhood, and Temple Adult Education, will host Maggie Anton, who is the author of the trilogy Rashi's Daughters. Ms. Anton is an outstanding speaker and will speak about Jewish life in Medieval France.
