Every Step Counts

National Hadassah Associates, Hadassah Department of Women's Health and Advocacy, and the Hadassah-Hebrew University Braun School of Public Health in Jerusalem have developed EVERY STEP COUNTS, an easy walking program, to support a more physically active way of life. 

Participating in this program encourages individuals to become more active by increasing the number of steps they take on a daily basis.  On average, inactive people take 2000 to 4000 steps a day; moderately active people take 5000 to 7000 steps a day; and active people take at least 10,000 steps a day.

The relationship between physical activity and preventing health problems has been well documented and current data indicate that by taking 8,000 to 10,000 steps each day you can: manage your blood pressure; reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes; manage stress and boost your spirits; reduce your risk of a heart attack; help you sleep better; manage your weight and stay strong and active.

As part of this program, it is Hadassah's hope that individuals and their familes will be empowered not only to take charge of increasing their daily physical activity but will also become their own medical advocates.  EVERY STEP COUNTS is easy and almost everyone can do it.
