Coffee Talk 2-14-11
|This month's Coffee Talk was held in the home of Paula Jarnicki at 9:30 a.m. Since February is Heart Month, Kelly Bruns, RN, a cardiac rehab nurse, spoke about "Unlocking the Secret to a Healthy, Happy Heart". She shared with us a printed handout illustrating how our emotions can affect our heart health. |
We often speak of being light-hearted, down-hearted, broken hearted, etc. Stress is your body's reaction to the demands of daily living. How you view or feel about an event will determine if it is stressful to you. Too much stress can cause illnesses like heart disease, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension and depression. But if we alter our perception, we can change the experience of stress and moderate our reaction. Kelly gave several tips for beating stress, like having a strong social network, a good sense of humor and an optimistic view. As Shakespeare said, "Things are neither good or bad, but thinking makes it so."
Tobe Snow, Hadassah Programming Chair, began the program by talking about Hadassah's latest medical achievements and fundraising efforts. She presented Kelly Bruns with a beautiful Hadassah bracelet and gave hostess Paula Jarnicki colorful candles from Israel. Everyone enjoyed the program and the delicious light breakfast provided by Paula.
