Lunch With Hadassah Nurse
|On Sunday, July 31, 2011, Cincinnati Chapter welcomed visiting nurse Shulamit Elbaz from Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem with a lunch at the home of Bonnie and Jon Ullner. Shulamit is the head nurse of pediatric surgery at Hadassah Hospital and is in Cincinnati from July 28 - August 4, observing and working at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, as part of the exchange program between the two hospitals. Hadassah members brought a variety of dishes to share.|
Shulamit spoke to the group about her experiences at Hadassah in Jerusalem, what she is learning here, and how the two hospitals collaborate and learn from each other. She answered some questions from Hadassah members about how American and Israeli health care differ and how that affects patient care. We were surprised to learn that when a child enters the Emergency Room at Hadassah Hospital, even with just a stomachache or headache, they are automatically admitted and observed for at least 24 hours. The Israeli goverment pays for basic health care, but supplemental insurance policies are available to citizens as an option. Hadassah Hospitals are paid for by Hadassah, not the government, and are state-of-the-art.
Cincinnati Chapter Co-President Bobbi Handwerger thanked Shulamit for her presentation and awarded her a Hadassah certificate. She also gave certificates to Jon and Bonnie Ullner as thanks for hosting the event, and to Nina Paul, who hosted Shulamit over Shabbbat.
