Education Day 2-10-13

Hadassah Education Day was held in the Teller Student Lounge on the campus of Hebrew Union College on Sunday, February 10, 2013, from 2 - 4 p.m. Rabbi Judith Chessin led a delightful Chocolate Seder, using different forms of chocolate to symbolize the essence of the story of Passover. Bobbi Handwerger, Education Day Chair, welcomed about 25 women and introduced Rabbi Chessin, who was ordained from Hebrew Union College and serves as the Rabbi of Temple Beth Or in Dayton since its inception in 1984.  The Education Day Committee members were Gilda Schwartz, Karen Silverman, Sandra Berg and Bobbi Handwerger, Bea Goodman, Ellen Jaffe Drake, and Sandy Spitz.

 Chocolate matza.
Each place setting had cups with chocolate syrup instead of salt water for dipping; a chocolate-covered marshmallow as the "egg"; bittersweet chocolate for "maror"; apple slices for "karpas"; a "lamb's shankbone" made from a pretzel stick dipped in chocolate (made by Carol Ann Schwartz); trail mix as "charoset"; and an orange to represent female egalitarianism.  The matzoh was chocolate-covered, of course!
