Dr. Benny Koplewitz Visits Cincinnati
Hadassah Medical Center Pediatric Radiologist, Dr Benny Koplewitz, Visits Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
Dr. Benny Koplewitz, head of the Pediatric Diagnostic Radiology Department of Hadassah Hospital, Bloomberg Mother and Child Center was in Cincinnati visiting at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center as part of an Israel Medical Exchange program that Cincinnati Children’s has established with Hadassah Medical Organization.
Dr. Koplewitz requested to come to Cincinnati Children’s as part of a competitive application process. He wanted to be able to share some of his knowledge from Hadassah Hospital and observe clinical work at Cincinnati Children's. By working with the medical staff at Cincinnati Children's, his goal was for future cooperative research projects in the subjects of radiation dose reduction in CT and chest radiography: using the applications of sonography, MR techniques in children: elastography.
In addition to his time at the Cincinnati Children’s Dr. Koplewitz had the opportunity to spend time with the members of the Israeli community living in Cincinnati at a dinner at the home of Nina and Eddie Paul, and with members Cincinnati Chapter of Hadassah at a brunch on Sunday, February 16th, at the home of Carol Ann and Michael Schwartz. Benny shared with the group what he is doing at Hadassah Hospital and what he hopes to achieve from his visit to Cincinnati Children's. "There is great potential for collaboration!"
He also attended a Jewish Federation of Cincinnati event, “Israelity: Redefining Reality in Israel” with Member of the Israeli Knesset, Rabbi Dov Lipman. Believing that isolation breeds extremism, Lipman works to bring members of the ultra-Orthodox community "into the fold" by providing them with general education, encouraging them to work while they continue to study Torah, and requiring their military or civil service.
The event was part of “ISRAELITY: Redefining Reality in Israel,” a series of open dialogues in which social innovators give first-hand accounts of life in an unknown and unshown Israel—their personal ISRAELITYs. Rabbi Dov Lipman visited Cincinnati to discuss his vision for the State of Israel. He met with Jewish community leaders and professionals and then gave a public lecture. Dr. Koplewitz attend both events with Hadassah National Board member, Carol Ann Schwartz.
Dr. Koplewitz’s visit was made possible through the Israel Exchange Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, that awarded partial funding for his visit through a competitive application process. The goals of these visits are to provide training to Israelis and establish clinical and research collaboration with their medical centers.
