|A Message from your President |
Dear Members and Friends,
It is good to have the support of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, during wartime and peacetime. For more than 100 years, Hadassah has helped Israel to defy wars, terror, plagues and hunger to save lives, heal bodies and educate minds.
In response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, we, the members of Hadassah, have an opportunity to pledge our solidarity with Israel in words and deeds, and through financial contributions to help defray the fiscal burden of the crisis. During the National Convention in Las Vegas, members gathered to hear updates from representatives of the Israeli IDF Medical Corps, the Hadassah Medical Organization, and experts on the Middle East. More than $2 million was raised in extra pledges during the meeting. Hadassah members urged Congress to affirm its support for Israel, for the demilitarization of Gaza, and for Israel’s right for sovereignty and self-defense.
A few days after the convention, National Hadassah President Marcie Natan led a solidary trip to Israel, visiting wounded soldiers and their families at the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital; comforting children in Sderot; and meeting with the new president of Israel Reuven Rivlin.
Hadassah’s Youth Aliyah villages have opened their doors to embrace a constant stream of children and families from the southern part of Israel, and will continue to do so as long as these families are in harm’s way. As the crisis continued, Hadassah hospitals on Mount Scopus and Ein Kerem began receiving and treating patients with severe casualties, both soldiers and civilians. Although many doctors and nurses, administrators and ancillary workers were called to serve in the IDF, the remaining staff pulled together to care for all who came through the doors.
Israel’s birthday in 1948 was marked by a declaration of war by its surrounding Arab neighbors. In the following 66 years, peace has come and gone, come and gone again. We stand united with Israel in times of conflict and in times of peace.
I am so proud to represent our chapter of Hadassah and would like to thank all of you for your continued and unwavering support of Israel.
Please don’t forget about Operation Protective Edge and the Hospital Tower — you can donate on the Hadassah website: www.Hadassah.org. If you need more ideas on meaningful donations and other gifts, contact our wonderful fundraising vice president Miriam Waltzer. And even if you are not in a position to make a monetary gift, there are other things you can do to help Hadassah, like donating your time or recruiting new members. In a world of turbulence, our organization is a constant source of friendship, with a meaningful purpose.
