August 2016 Associates Update

Associates at the 98th Hadassah National Convention
Thirty Associates attended the Annual Business Meeting of the National Committee of Hadassah Associates, held during the Convention in Atlanta, GA last month. Elections for the 2017 Board of Directors and Officers were held. Congratulations to our continuing board members and to our newest member Ken Bernstein.

We were privileged to have Professor Zeev Rotstein, the new Director General of Hadassah Medical Organization speak at our meeting. He outlined the numerous challenges facing HMO and talked about his vision for action to maintain and improve the excellent medical services presently provided by HMO.

A big round of applause for Burt Krull of New York who was named the 2016 Associate of the Year. His certificate and a commemorative gift will be presented to him by National President Ellen Hershkin, at Hadassah headquarters.

Our meeting was further enhanced by a presentation from Rich Walter, Associate Director for Israel Education from the Institute for the Study of Modern Israel, Emory University. He discussed the BDS movement and the concept of "Intersectionality" in the public and university communities as used to demonize Israel. For more information, contact Rich Walter at rich.walter@israeled.org.

Convention Breakout Session
Associates had a presence everywhere at Convention, participating in multiple breakout sessions and an information table in the Chai-lights resource area. We displayed boards of photographs from activities across the country and from our 2015 Israel Mission.

At one breakout session, National Committee of Hadassah Associates (NCHA) President Fred Safer was the moderator and described innovative programs used by Hadassah International for global outreach to create fundraising opportunities for HMO. NCHA Vice President Louis Numkin moderated a breakout session highlighting Israel's security program with a focus on the Iron Dome defense system. The Associates Leadership Team, as always, was an integral part of the two sessions on fundraising.
