May 2017 Associates Update

A Warm Welcome for Our New Associates President
At the April 26 meeting of the Directors of the National Committee of Hadassah Associates, a motion was passed accepting my resignation as President of the Associates. My wife, Rena, and I are making aliyah to Israel in July to join our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our new residence will be in Jerusalem.

The Board of Directors then elected James (Jim) Rotenberg as the new Associates President. Jim will serve commencing May 1, 2017, through December 31, 2019.

Jim and his wife, Carol, have lived in the Five Towns area of Long Island for almost 50 years. They currently reside in Lawrence, NY. He has been an Associate for over 40 years and is part of a five-generation Hadassah family. He is a business consultant and attorney, and past synagogue president. Carol and Jim are members of the Society of Major Donors. Jim is a key leader of the Nassau County Walkathon each year, including major fundraising on behalf of the Associates.

Louis Numkin, a longtime associate vice president, was elected to the position of executive vice-president.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my involvement with the Associates and my time as their President. I will still serve as co-leader of the October 2017 Mission (see below) and hope to see many of you there on this or future trips to Israel. I wish Jim and Louis my best as they take on their very important roles as Associate leaders.

Thank you all so much.
Fred Safer, Outgoing President, NCHA

October 2017 Mission
There is still time to join the Associates' Mission to Jerusalem and the Spectacular South, October 15 to 27, 2017, with stops in Tel Aviv, Masada, the Dead Sea, Rimon Crater and the Eshkol region. They will have a session at the Knesset, meet business leaders, and have a special security briefing. An add-on for Eilat and Petra, Jordan, is available. Learn more.

Our 2017 Men's Health Initiative: Alzheimer's Research
The dreaded disease of Alzheimer's is the new fundraising target for the Associates Men's Health Initiative (MHI). As more people live longer, the potential for being affected grows. Hadassah Medical Organization is doing groundbreaking research into prevention, treatment, and cures. Join in the effort to end this disease. Please contribute. Be sure to designate your donation to MHI. All donations are credited to the local chapter and region goals. Keeper of the Gate and Chai Society donations may also be designated.

Shavuot
Shavuot is the holiday celebrating the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. Every year, we must recommit ourselves to Torah. Please join your local synagogue in celebration of Shavuot, which begins May 30.
