Leanne Sobel

LEA Chapter, Desert Mountain Region
Englewood, Colorado

Married with two children, a son who is almost 5 and a daughter who is 2.

What keeps you busy?

Life! I work full-time as an attorney, I am a full-time mom to my two pre-school age children, I am involved in Hadassah and also in another organization called Daughters of the British Empire and I serve on the Parent Teacher Leadership Team at my children's pre-school.

What are your interests/hobbies?

I enjoy reading (I actually facilitate the LEA Young Women's book group), ballet barre, zumba and swimming.

Why did you become a member?

I had attended a few meetings of the newly formed Young Women's group and had met a lot of good friends and engaged in fun activities. I was involved in the leadership team and the book group. I also learned that I had benefited from Hadassah via Young Judea when I was a teenager so it just made sense to give back. I also made my daughter a life member for Chanukah.

One thing we should know about you.

I grew up in Scotland and only landed in the U.S. as an adult after law school.

Madeline Sugerman

Madeline Sugerman

Collier County Chapter
Florida Central Region

I received a bachelor of Fine Arts, cum laude, from Lehman College, City University of New York and completed my education at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts in the field of interior design. In 1984 I started my own interior design firm and became a Registered Interior Designer and a member of ASID and IIDA. I am fortunate to have completed design projects throughout the country.

I married Randal Sugerman in 1977 and we have been happily married for 37 years. We are blessed with two sons, Jared and Chad and are fortunate to have them both living nearby in South Florida. The most recent member of our family is our Coton de Tulear, Bridgitte Simone, who is our canine companion and is a continual source of pleasure for us all.

What keeps you busy?

My days bustle with interior design projects, painting, creating multi-media artwork, photography and volunteer work with Hadassah, and local woman’s groups and charitable organizations. Of course, spending time with my husband and children make everything worthwhile.

What are your interests/hobbies?

I am an avid horticulturalist and care for over 70 orchids and a multitude of cacti, palms, and other tropical plants and flowers. The love of travel has afforded me the opportunity to immerse myself in other cultures. A recent trip took me to Oaxaca, Mexico where I painted with a Zapotec Artist using botanical dyes and pigments. Through my photographic lens I tried to capture a window into this amazing indigenous culture.

Why did you become a member?

Hadassah is emblematic of the triad of family, charity, and Zionism. I can think of no other organization that reflects my love of Judaism and the State of Israel. I feel so proud to be a Hadassah woman and consider myself so fortunate to be a Keeper of the Gate. The many wonderful people I have met through Hadassah have enriched my life, and, in particular, my dear friend Janet Sigman. At one of the first Hadassah luncheons I attended, Janet was seated next to me. We have forged an endearing friendship that would never have been possible without our mutual commitment to Hadassah.

One thing we should know about you.

I set aside a portion of time each day to acknowledge my life, family, faith, country, and friendships. I am eternally thankful for each of those blessings that have been bestowed upon me.

Park Slope Chapter, Brooklyn Region
Brooklyn, New York

I'm a married 44 year old woman from Brooklyn, NY. I married Marc Lighter, a personal banker on November 17th, 2013, and we just celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We have one cat and one dog.

What keeps you busy?

I'm a former psychiatric social worker. A staunch advocate for patient support and medical cures for chronic pain and chronic fatigue, I was a part of a group that was filmed for a graduate student’s thesis documentary on fibromyalgia. Additionally I advocate for animal rights and Israel.

What are your interests/hobbies?

I love anything to do with the water, like swimming with the dolphins, I'm an avid reader and love travel. One of my favorite experiences was serving as a volunteer for Israel 20 years ago. Why did you become a member?

I became a member to support Hadassah and Israel. Israel offers some of the greatest technology and innovations in the world. Israel is a gift to her people and to all of humanity. Supporting her is but a small part I can play in watching her grow, thrive and survive. Am Yisrael chai!

One thing we should know about you.

I'm passionate and dedicated to all I undertake, and to all I love and value.
