Welcome to Hadassah Greater Washington! Our region has so many opportunities for active women to meet each other, learn new skills, develop friendships and support the outstanding medical research at Hadassah’s hospitals in Jerusalem.
Hadassah Greater Washington has over 7,300 members in the Washington Metropolitan area, which includes Maryland, Northern Virginia and now West Virginia (from Annapolis to Silver Spring and Rockville, from Fairfax County to Morgantown, West Virginia). Our five Maryland chapters are comprised of retired women. Our Northern Virginia chapter members are younger women (many who are working), and we are forming a young women’s chapter in Washington, DC. Our chapters have monthly or quarterly meetings where our members engage in a variety of activities and programs.
In the past year (primarily online), we invited expert speakers to inform us about voter education and public policy issues, estate planning and charitable gift annuities and the science behind medical marijuana. We took a virtual visit to Cuba and met with one of Maryland’s senators at a “Virtual Day on the Hill.” Prior to the virus-caused lockdown, we took in-person, docent-led tours of museums and visited DC landmarks. On a more informal level, we also enjoy ice cream socials and “Game Day” for card and mahjong players. We look forward to experiencing these in-person trips and social events in the near future while our virtual tours continue.
Hadassah Greater Washington strives to foster Hadassah’s mission: to support women’s health advocacy and research in the US around issues such as infertility, to promote fundraising activities to help renovate Hadassah’s main hospital in Jerusalem, to support at-risk youth in Israel, to combat antisemitism and to advance positive US-Israel relationships.
We hope you will find something that stirs your passion and connects you with other dedicated women who want to volunteer their time to demonstrate their love for the land and the people of Israel.
