Berks/Reading Chapter of Hadassah From Rose Fisher whose name is on the Wall of Healing in Israel to Mrs. Harry Zable, the women of Berks Hadassah of the 1930's were the cornerstone not only of our chapter but Hadassah as a whole. With a membership of over 350, these women were committed to the mission and values so many Hadassah members worldwide strive to uphold. This commitment held strong in 1983 as Louise Zeidman became president. A program entitled 'Jews in China' brought more than 120 people to her installation. It was around this time, Louise remembers, women became a more viable force in the workplace however that also meant these same women would not be able to attend the daytime Hadassah meetings as easily as they once did. She was right. Today's Berks/Reading Chapter of Hadassah is now a small group of women who remain steadfast. Our 'young' Jewish population is not what it once was and although we have only a few functions each year, these women are also committed to keeping our chapter alive and well in Reading, PA just as those before us did - with the hope that the next generation will bring with it a resurgence with many more members. I hope this is what you were looking for. Please let me just say our chapter may be small, but we are mighty - and we are proud. Sincerely, Susan Wilson Co-President Gaye Corbin Co-President Jan Simon Co-President
