April 2016 Associates Update

Fred Safer, Associates President

Dear Fellow Associates,

MOTHER'S DAY is nearly here. Associates (and any others) have the opportunity to perform a double mitzvah. By purchasing a card and sending to your mother, wife, daughter, granddaughter or other special female loved one, you honor her and are also providing funds through Hadassah for the Men's Health Initiative (MHI). Each card in your name will be sent from Hadassah by "snail mail" directly to your designated person. Cost is only $36 per card. Act now by clicking on the link. Have your credit card handy.

This is the 3rd year of the MHI, and the focus is on Lung Cancer research at the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) in Jerusalem. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of Men and Women. Be aware that each local chapter of Hadassah will receive FULL CREDIT toward its fund raising goals for all monies raised by the Mother's Day cards.

A special information flyer has been developed by Hadassah which can be used by each chapter to educate its members about Lung Cancer. Contact your local Hadassah President to obtain the Lung Cancer flyer.

A new, beautiful silver necklace has been designed exclusively for sale to members and others, for a donation of $150. Consider this special gift as a significant surprise for Mother’s Day or any other special occasion. To order, go to hadassah.org/mothersday.

Hadassah Associates are celebrating 50 years of supporting the HMO. We are encouraging every Associate to contribute an additional $50 to the MHI in recognition of our "Golden Anniversary". Every donation is credited to the local Hadassah chapter's fund raising goals.

I urge men and women to enroll all males in their family as Associates. A lifetime membership is only $ 212. Spouses, significant others, sons, grandsons, nephews and male friends are all eligible. It is a wonderful gift for the "man who has everything". Click here.

Plan to attend the Hadassah national Convention in Atlanta, Georgia this July 25-29, 2016. Watch for the registration information, coming soon, as well as hotel registration and plan to attend. There will be special programming for Associates. Men and women will be inspired by the speakers. Learn about the many programs Hadassah is carrying out here in the USA and in Israel. Meet the new Director General of HMO and some of the doctors who perform medical miracles on a daily basis. Click here for more information.

Another area where men and women can coordinate fundraising is "Keepers of the Gate". Here too, men (and women) can designate the contribution toward the MHI and the local Hadassah chapter receives credit towards its fundraising goal. Keepers provide a vital annual minimum commitment of $1,000 or more. It is a contribution category in which both men and women can participate. Together we can achieve our 2016 MHI fund raising goal of $125,000.

As a unique recognition for Associates, as President, I will be moderating a session sponsored by and about Hadassah International at the Atlanta Convention. All Associates and delegates are invited to attend. Look for it, along with our Business Meeting, on the Tuesday agenda. At the Hadassah International session, attendees will learn about Hadassah International's global outreach and the innovative strategies it is exploring to support the life-saving work of HMO.

When it comes to fundraising, there are numerous enjoyable ways to do it. Read about an easy way to raise funds for Hadassah and have a fun-filled evening at the theater. Click here to read about an imaginative event.

As we all know, in order to plan programming or medical research, a steady stream of regular income is necessary for budgetary purposes. Keepers of the Gate fill that vital need for Hadassah. Men and women who commit to donate a minimum of $ 1,000 each year are that critical foundation. I urge all Associates who have the financial means to please consider that Mitzvah of support.

Last but not least, I want to remind all Associates that each and every one of us needs to advocate for Israel at every opportunity. Israel is located in a nasty and dangerous "neighborhood". The Hadassah office can provide much needed information to assist you. At Convention there will be special programs to provide additional information.
