November 2015 Associates Update

December 2015

Jeff Richardson, Associates President

Dear Fellow Associates

This will be my last update as I will be handing the reins of President to Fred Safer of Milwaukee, effective January 1. Fred is a long time NCHA Board member and a gifted leader. I know that the Associates are in good hands with Fred at the helm.

It’s been a privilege to serve as your President these past two years and to be involved with, among other things, the 2014 Las Vegas Convention, the 2015 Business meeting in Philadelphia, and most recently, the very successful Associates Mission to Israel (see article below). We’ve also inaugurated a few things including this very update now appearing monthly in hNews, and the first ever Charity Poker Tournament, held in Chicago on November 21, which will be repeated next year, possibly in some additional cities. We also created a new, more compelling tag line for the Associates...Advancing Medical Research, Healing & Education….and conducted a survey going to all Associates for which we have email addresses to assess interest areas in order to enhance the Associate experience. And of course we’ve had many other accomplishments.

I want to thank my Associate Chairs Fern Tannenbaum and Haren Haber as well as Leadership team members Fred Safer, Burt Krull, Sharon Cadoff, and Tamar Davis for their help and guidance during my tenure.

And I want to thank all of you for your support of Hadassah and the Associates these past few years. Your support has been vital...and may we all go from strength to strength!

November 2015

Jeff Richardson, Associates President

I hope all of you and your families celebrated a wonderful New Year and associated holidays and are enjoying the fall season.

This month's Associate's Update highlights the very successful inaugural Associates golf outing in the greater Washington D.C. area. This is a great example of what Associates can do locally when they decide they want to make a difference by supporting Men's Health and have a lot of fun at the same time.

National Council of Hadassah Associates (NCHA) Board Member Louis Numkin, along with other Associates, were instrumental in putting this together and Louis submitted this article. If you'd like more information on how to put a golf outing together in your area, please reach out to associates@hadassah.org and we will be glad to help.

By the time you receive this, our Associates Mission to Israel will be a treasured memory and I’ll tell you about some of our experiences in a future update. Until then, enjoy this month's article and if you would like to submit one for a future update, please contact me at jrichardson@hadassah.org or contact Fern Tannenbaum at ftannenbaum@hadassah.org.

Hadassah Associates Score a Hole-in-One

A year ago on August 12, 2014, Louis Numkin and Harold Norkin met with then President of Hadassah Greater Washington, Iris Tishkoff, to develop an active Hadassah Associates group. Following this session, they held several meetings with other Associates, including Howard Rumerman and Alan Lipschultz to determine what projects to tackle as they moved toward an inaugural event. With great deliberation it was decided to organize and run a golf tournament, named 'Hadassah Golfs'.

Louis proudly reported on this event stating, "Howard took the lead and did most of the leg work in determining where to hold this activity and doling out duties to the rest of the team. We all sought donors who would have naming rights for the Hole in One Contest, individual holes, the breakfast and later lunch, as well as the whole tournament. Fortunately, we were successful in finding caring members of the community and businesses to donate for an acknowledgement. We opened to donors first and then to golfers, foursomes or individuals.Hadassah Greater Washington current President, Judy Erdheim, and staff helped us create a registration website, Facebook page, and provided publicity assistance. The Golf Club, Hampshire Green, had carts for competitors and staff as well as available space for our registration and the 19th Hole Awards presentation. Some fees covered box lunches and umbrella giveaways. Mulligans were also a way to bring in a few more dollars. By the end of the day, our DC Associates were able to turnover a net of approximately $8,000 to Hadassah, earmarked for the Associates Mens Health Initiative.

We are proud to have turned a profit on our first DC Hadassah Associates event and look forward to other activities in the future. Stay tuned for tales of our future efforts in support of Hadassah and the Associates Men's Health Initiative.

If you would like information about replicating a golf tournament in your Region or Chapter please contact us.
