Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included in my membership?

Memberships include this and more: subscription to the award-winning Hadassah Magazine; invitations to special programs, conferences and events; receipt of hNews, our national e-newsletter; opportunities to join a professional council or special interest group; membership in a supportive community that shares your love of Israel; advocating regularly for important issues; supporting Hadassah Hospitals in Israel and their groundbreaking medical research; helping our youth Aliyah villages that care for and educate at-risk youth; exclusive Israel Travel experiences.

Why are there membership fees?

Hadassah’s membership fees are much lower than other membership organizations. These fees are essential for keeping Hadassah running as an organization on a day-to-day basis, and don’t even cover all of Hadassah’s financial needs (the generosity of our members and supporters helps make up the rest). Know that your membership fee provides you with many benefits that will make you feel good and help Hadassah to do good.

How is the membership fee different than a donation?

Donations are separate contributions from membership fees and therefore tax deductible. Every donation made to Hadassah is meaningful and helps us fulfill our mission. By donating to Hadassah beyond your membership dues with an undesignated gift, you are supporting Hadassah's Hosptials in Israel, Youth Aliyah, and our domestic initiatives that focus on advocacy, education, health and wellness, women's empowerment and engagement initiatives.

How is an Associate different from a member?

Hadassah was started as and remains a women's organization. Membership is reserved for everyone who identifies as a women. But many men believe in supporting Hadassah's mission, and are welcome to become Associates (open to everyone who identifies as a man). Local Associate communities have in person gatherings, and there are opportunities to connect at Hadassah conferences and events. Unlike annual membership, there is no annual option for Associates, who demonstrate their commitment by joining for life.

Why should I join Hadassah when there are so many other Jewish organizations?

Being part of a Hadassah means joining the largest Jewish women's organization in America - with a 100+ year history behind it and a base of members and supporters of almost 300,000 across the country. That’s a lot of support for and power to do good in the world. And as an organization made up of and run by powerful, intelligent, passionate women, Hadassah provides a unique opportunity for members to form life-long friendships that few other organizations can match.

What are the benefits of being in a Hadassah Chapter?

Being a part of a chapter has long been an essential way for individual members to feel connected to other members and to Hadassah as an organization. Many chapters hold regular in-person meetings, programs and events, providing fun and entertainment, and facilitating friendships. They also enable education, fundraising and advocacy, particularly enabling members to do good work on a local community level in addition to Hadassah’s national and global efforts.

What if I don’t want to join a chapter, or live too far away from one?

Not everyone wants to be a part of a chapter or lives close enough to a chapter to participate regularly – and that’s OK; Hadassah has a place for everyone. In recent years, Hadassah has developed many ways to connect members to Hadassah no matter where they are, including our hugely popular online programs, Hadassah Magazine, hNews our National e-newsletter, videos about Hadassah goings on and online social media groups. There are also regional and national conferences you may attend across the country.
