A festive dedication of the New Learning Center at the Goldwurm Auditorium took place on November 14, 2022. This project addresses the critical nursing shortage that Israel is experiencing. The Government of Israel has asked and Hadassah has answered by increasing the nursing student class size by 25%. The auditorium has been transformed into a state-of-the-art learning center accommodating 185 students, with upgraded multimedia and integrated technology, full access for all with physical challenges, additional classroom spaces, simulation technology and more. We were treated to a new video, which captured many Nursing milestones of our Henrietta Szold Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Nursing.
It was a special day with remarks from both Professor Nachman Ash, Director General of the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Shoshy Goldberg, Head Nurse and Director of the Nursing Division of the Ministry of Health. They spoke of the importance of Nursing, the excellence of our School of Nursing, and the exploration into future roles of advanced practice nurses in Israel.
Dr. Nurit Zusman, the Head of our School of Nursing and Dr. Rely Alon, our Director of Nursing inspired us. Nursing student Karen Uliel, currently serving in the IDF, presented her research and expressed her gratitude for Hadassah’s outstanding education and the new learning space.
The audience included National President Rhoda Smolow, CEO Naomi Adler, Director General Prof. Yoram Weiss and many other dignitaries, including past National Presidents, senior members of the SON faculty, a fantastic group of Hadassah members, and the Nurses and Allied Health Professional and Physicians Council members just finishing a 4-day tour. A special surprise appearance by Judith Steiner Freud, age 103, the former Director of the school who established the first baccalaureate program for nursing in 1975, generated a standing ovation.
Sandy Einberg and Nancy Falchuk were honored for their generous donations. They each shared about why this project is meaningful to them and unveiled plaques. The ceremony was capped off with a L’chaim by our moderator, and Israel Director of Public Relations, Barbara Sofer.
