Dear Friends,

Spring is in the air and new growth surrounds us. In Israel, our brothers and sisters are out in the streets, protesting and sharing opinions about how our precious Israel will look in the future. We are proud that Israel is a strong democracy where its citizens can express themselves freely. We are proud that our President Rhoda Smolow represented us at the 75th celebration on Mount Herzl where Hadassah’s own Avi Rivkind, shock trauma pioneer and professor of surgery, was honored to be one of the 12 Israelis invited to light a torch. We are proud of Hadassah Nurses Julie Benbenishty and Naela Hayek, who were invited to speak at the UN about their NGO Nurses in the Middle East. We are proud that our incredible school, the Henrietta Szold Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Nursing, recently held a second white coat ceremony for advanced practice nurses. We are proud of our Hadassah nurses, celebrating Nurses Week at our Hadassah Hospitals, who go above and beyond to bring professionalism and caring for all patients.

As in nature, we are planning for how our council will grow and build a strong future, how to strengthen our School of Nursing, how to support the development of the nurse practitioner role in Israel and how we can best integrate allied health professionals (AHP). Geri Lipschitz is taking on the role of liaison to AHP. Now is the time to reach out to your friends and family who are healthcare professionals and invite them to join our council. There is a new health professionals group forming in Seattle, and Detroit’s recently formed council is creating interesting programming.

We are excited about a signature program this fall, chaired by Ellen Audet and Susan Lafer. Stay tuned for details and let us know if you’d like to join the planning committee. We welcome your creativity and involvement!
