Support for Israel

Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Inc., reaffirms prior policy statements on nuclear proliferation, weapons of mass destruction, and the Middle East arms race. We especially view with alarm Iran’s nuclear ambitions—an immediate and existential threat to Israel, the region, and the world.

Hadassah recognizes the efforts of the United States and members of the international community to secure a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran’s nuclear program. However, we remain acutely concerned that the proposed agreement will fail to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Hadassah urges Congress and the White House to take all necessary actions to ensure that Iran can never acquire nuclear weapons capability.

Any agreement must guarantee Iran’s transparency about its nuclear activities, security safeguards, and compliance prior to the lifting of any economic sanctions. Existing sanctions are credited with bringing Iran to the negotiating table. It is essential to maintain economic pressure to assure that Iran does not violate or abandon the process.

Hadassah also urges the United States to continue engaging with Israel throughout this process in order to maintain security cooperation, economic partnerships, and a robust U.S.-Israel relationship.

Hadassah's Policy Statements represent the organization's official stance on a wide variety of issues facing our nation, Israel and other international matters of concern. Policy Statements are debated and voted on at national meetings by Hadassah’s national board and delegates from our membership. Once approved, statements become official policies of the organization and serve to define Hadassah's overall agenda and advocacy priorities. Hadassah, as a charitable organization classified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, is prohibited from any direct or indirect support of, or opposition to, candidates for public office.
